Fayette and Harrisburg to square off at Busch Stadium

Posted

The Fayette Falcons and Harrisburg Bulldogs baseball teams, along with the St. Louis Cardinals, have announced their participation in the Cardinal’s Amateur Game program.

On select dates during the baseball season, the Cardinals Amateur Game program gives high school and college baseball teams the opportunity to participate in an amateur game at Busch Stadium. The Amateur Game program is offered to those teams who sell a designated number of tickets based on the enrollment of their schools.

The Falcons and Bulldogs will go against each other in a game set to be played at Busch on June 20, Father’s Day, at a time to be determined. To qualify for the game, each school will be responsible for selling 200 tickets to a Cardinal game set for June 26 at 1:15 p.m. against division rival Pittsburgh Pirates. Seats for that game will be located in the left-field pavilion area of Busch. Normally, tickets in that particular area cost $47.00. For this promotion, tickets may be purchased for $25.00.

Fayette will field a team comprised of players that will make up the 2022 Fayette High School baseball roster along with some members of the recently formed Junior Babe Ruth team that will begin play on June 3.

Heading up the Fayette team will be Fayette assistant baseball coach Andy Oeth assisted by Junior Babe Ruth coach Brandon Friebe and Kyle Elliot.

“I feel this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our players and a big jumping-off point for Fayette baseball,” said Oeth. “Not only will it be a great experience, but it will be a great way to generate excitement and interest in baseball in Fayette. It will also generate money to help both the high school team and the local Jr. Babe Ruth team.”

The Harrisburg Bulldogs will be led by Harrisburg high school head coach Chris Ackman and assisted by Nathan Carey and Ryan Richardson.

To purchase tickets, Fayette fans will need to contact Brandon Friebe via email at bfriebe@faith-family.org, Kyle Elliot at Commercial Trust Co. at (660-2418-2222), Danielle Sappington at (573) 489-0955, or Amber Overfelt at (660) 537-1904. Harrisburg fans should contact Ackman at (314) 277-0513 or via email at ackmanc@harrisburg.k12.mo.us.

“I just want my players to have this once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Ackman. “I had the opportunity to play at Busch in 1999 as a senior for the Macomb Bombers. It was an experience that I will never forget.”
