Many local residents will recall a grand celebration in 1973 as Fayette celebrated 150 years as a community. A huge celebration complete with parades, outdoor concerts, outdoor community-wide religious services, beard growing contests, picnics, a grand play, and, of course, a time capsule buried on the lawn of the Howard County Courthouse, rang in Fayette’s sesquicentennial.
In 2023, Fayette will celebrate its 200th Birthday. In preparation for the bicentennial next year, Fayette Together, the Fayette Area Heritage Association, and Fayette Main Street, Inc. will host a town-hall style meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church to begin planning.
The purpose of the gathering will be to brainstorm ideas—big ones and small ones—and begin developing a plan for celebrating this important milestone in Fayette’s great history. The public is invited to attend this meeting, and especially encourage each service club, civic organization, church, fraternal organization, and educational institution to send a representative, and for local business leadership to attend and help draft a plan to make the 2023 Bicentennial of Fayette a spectacular event.
