Fayette Booster Club works overtime to support FHS Athletes

Posted

With a new set of officers taking over, the Fayette Athletic Booster Club jumped into overdrive in its support of Fayette Athletes.

While some would consider “Fayette Athletes” to be just those teams that participate with a ball and an offense and defense. That would be an inaccurate assumption in this case. The booster club supports all sports including cheerleading, football, softball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ track, baseball, golf, and weightlifting.

“The booster club works to supplement what the coaches need,” said Mary Ann Hudson, the club’s outgoing secretary. “We help out where we can with uniforms, equipment, and facilities. We were able to do that this past spring, along with the Optimist Club, to work on the football field and the softball field. We help along the way with our teams and facilities.”

The club also raises money to go toward scholarships, explained new president Jinger Felten. “Each year, we give a scholarship to a graduating senior, both female and male.”

The amount of money we have been able to give away over the years has varied,” said Hudson. “This year has been a great year; we had a great sponsor drive, corporate sponsors, local sponsors, that has really helped us out this past year. So we were able to supplement with the coaches by inviting them in and asking them, ‘if we were willing to offer you $1,500.00, what would you like?’ Due to our fall fundraising, we were able to do a lot more this year.”

This spring, boosters have been able to supplement the budgets of the weight room with $1,500 to upgrade the record board. The cheer squad received $500 to purchase flags and other miscellaneous items. The baseball team received $1,500 to purchase uniforms. The old uniforms were at least 15 years old. The golf team received GPS watches to assist them on the course with distances and terrain. The softball team received a Go-Pro video camera to assist in both training and live-streaming capabilities, and boys’ and girls’ basketball teams each received $1,500.

Over the years, the booster club has provided the north side entryway into the football field and added new restrooms to the football stands and softball stands.

To become a member of the booster club, an individual only needs to contact an officer of the club. Various levels of membership, from $50 to $100, are available.

Corporate sponsorships are also available from $100 to $500.

Currently, there are 20-25 corporate memberships and approximately 20 dues-paying members.

Volunteers are always welcome to help in the concession stand, Friday night tailgates, softball concessions, or even helping out or participating in the golf tournament in the fall. Just contact any booster club officer.

In July, at Meet the Falcons night, there will be a membership drive in hopes of gaining new members.

One project the boosters are looking forward to is the renovation of the football stands. The club will seek approval from the school board to develop a concession stand that faces the field as well as renovations to the restroom facilities.

The booster club hopes to work with the Optimist Club to purchase a sun shade to cover the home dugouts at the softball field. The boosters have also worked with the Optimist Club to improve the press boxes at both the football and softball fields.

The booster club wishes to thank all current and former boosters and corporate sponsors, along with former officers, for the hard work put in over the years and hopes to carry on in the proud tradition former officers have established.
