Fayette senior Theo Owings recorded his eighth double-double of the season as the Falcons scored a decisive 71-53 win over non-conference opponent Jamestown Monday night at home. The Falcons finished with four players in double figures.
The win marks Fayette’s seventh of the year to kick off the final week of the regular season before the start of district action next week in New Franklin.
Fayette’s consistent play in the first half allowed them to build a 37-28 lead by intermission.
Fayette coach Jon Bishop said his team talked at halftime about how to sustain the offensive attack in the second half. “I thought we had good focus on offense in the third quarter even though both teams seemed to slow things down a little. We were able to open things up a little more in the fourth and hang on for the win.”
Senior Dalton Collins again led the Fayette offense with 29 points on the night.
He also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists. Senior Chris Brown added 11 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Owings and junior Ben Wells each scored eight points. Owings also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Wells added four rebounds, two assists, and blocked one shot.
Senior point guard Tyler Bartholomew led the team with six assists, to go along with five points and five boards. He also made one steal. Senior Logan Wiswall and juniors Haden Kelly and Malakai Graves each contributed two points in Fayette’s win.
The Falcons closed out their home campaign on Tuesday against Paris on Senior Night after the Advertiser went to press. They will close out the regular season on the road Friday night at Schuyler County.
Fayette will enter the Class 2 District 7 Tournament as the seventh seed next week. The Falcons take on second-seeded Harrisburg at 6 p.m. on Monday at New Franklin.
The winner will play on Wednesday against the winner of the opening-round contest between sixth-seeded Glasgow and third-seeded Westran.
