Monday was a tough night for the Fayette Falcons as they fell to Class 3 North Callaway 71-34 at home.
“We struggled tonight against a Class 3 team that shot the ball very well,” said Fayette coach Jon Bishop.
North Callaway jumped out to an early 27-8 lead on hot shooting after the first quarter and extended its lead to 30 points by the half, 48-18. Things got no better for the Falcons as the third quarter wound down and the Thunderbirds led 69-27.
“When you are down like we were at half and need a spark you need to come out aggressive on defense in the third period and I think we were beat,” Bishop said. “These guys showed fight and they certainly gave great effort, but when you are down like we were it's tough to bounce back mentally.”
The Thunderbirds and Falcons substituted freely in the fourth as the turbo clock was in effect. Senior Dalton Collins led the Falcons with 12 points while junior Haden Kelly put in nine points. Seniors Theo Owings and Logan Wiswall each contributed four points while senior Tyler Bartholomew earned three. Junior Ben Wells added two.
Fayette will travel to Brunswick Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. title before hosting South Callaway Friday night at 7:30 p.m. “We would love to see the gym packed and energetic for these games,” said Bishop.
