The Fayette Festival of the Arts returns Saturday after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the traditional attractions return with a few new features added to this year’s event.

Entertainment kicks off at 9 a.m. with the Faith Family Singers performing gospel and patriotic music at the bandstand on the southwest corner of the courthouse lawn. The Show Me Brass Band will take the stage at 9:40 a.m., followed by the Just Friends Jazz Combo at 10:15 a.m.

Back by popular demand again this year is the Columbia Community Band. The baton will drop at 11 a.m.

After lunch, cast members from the recent Fayette Area Community Theater production of “Newsies” will perform starting at 1:10 p.m. At 1:20, Fayette High School senior Sieanna Toombs will perform vocal music.

A group calling themselves “Die deutschmeister Musik Makers,” led by Gordon Fetterly of Boonville, will perform in traditional German attire at 2 p.m. The festival will close with a 2:45 performance of patriotic music.

Throughout the day, artworks will be on display. An art show at the Ashby Hodge Gallery of American Art in Classic Hall on the campus of Central Methodist University will display professional art entries. Amateur and children’s works will be displayed inside the courthouse.

Also inside the courthouse will be a presentation by Glasgow artist Peggy Guest. She will discuss the mural inside the courtroom on the second floor.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Peacemakers Quilt Show will take place inside the sanctuary of Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the CMU campus. (See related story). The annual show is held in conjunction with the Fayette Festival of the Arts.

Also on the CMU campus, the Central Museum of History will be open in T. Berry Smith Hall. Throughout the day, CMU history professor and museum curator Dr. Bob Wiegers will lead historical walking tours.

A vintage car show will take place on the south side of the square. Fayette’s Pet Adoption and Welfare Services (PAWS) will have pets on display that are up for adoption. Also on display will be a selection of emergency vehicles such as police cars, an ambulance, and fire trucks.

Plenty of activities for children will be featured during this year’s festival. Youngsters will enjoy pony rides on the north side of the square. There will also be a free bounce house and other fun activities.

Around the courthouse grounds, more than 45 vendors will set up shop, including a variety of dining options. Crafters will have homemade items for sale.

An advertisement with the full schedule of events appears on page 11 of this newspaper.
