For the first time in almost four decades, the Fayette Fire Department will not host its annual Sweetheart Dance. The event, held annually around Valentine’s Day, was scheduled for Feb. 6, 2021. It was canceled due to concerns regarding COVID-19. This year would have marked the 39th anniversary of the dance.
“We would like to thank everyone for all of the donations over the years. Without these donations and support from the community, our dance wouldn't be possible,” said a spokesman for the department.
The department will still hold a drawing this year for two guns on Feb. 6. Tickets cost $5 each. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets should contact a local fireman. All proceeds go toward the purchase of lifesaving equipment.
The traditional Sweetheart Dance serves as a fundraiser for the all-volunteer fire department. The firemen expect to host the dance again on February 5 of next year.
