The Fayette girls track & field team blew away the competition at Thursday’s Falcon Relays held at Central Methodist University’s Davis Field. Fayette finished with 131 points, far outpacing second-place Moberly with 95 points.

The Harrisburg girls finished sixth overall with 75.25 points, one place in front of Glasgow with 65.50 points. Higbee placed 10th out of 15 teams with 20 points, followed by New Franklin in 11th place with 15.75.

Fayette deftly outran its competition in the sprints and hurdles races, picking up 10 top-three finishes despite the cold, damp weather.

The top team score was bolstered by three wins from freshman Rylan Roberts, who broke the tape in the 100 (12.67), 200 (26.24), and 400-meter (58.98) sprints. In the field, she added a second-place finish in the triple jump (10.73).

Junior Browyn Eubanks is working to defend her state title in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing first overall on Thursday (47.78). She also won the 100-meter hurdles (16.02) and placed second in the 200 meters (26.94) and high jump (1.57m). Four other top-three finishes in the field events put the Falcon girls out of reach.

Fayette’s relay sprint teams also posted three top-three finishes. The 4x200 and 4x400-meter teams both finished runners-up, with the 4x100-meter relay team placing third. Paige Vroman, Chloe Bier, Lasaydra Jackman, and Payton Kindle finished less than a second behind the winning 4x100-meter team from Salisbury with a time of 55.11 seconds for third place. Vroman, Hayden Sage, Bier, and Kindle picked up second place as the 4x200-meter team, with a time of 1:55.14. In 4x400-meter action, Eastin Hill, Kennady Vroman, Sage, and Paige Vroman placed second at 4:34.96.

In the field, Eubanks picked up a second-place finish in the high jump (1.57m), while Roberts added a second-place distance in the triple jump (10.73m). Fayette also placed well in the throwing events. Mae Snyder finished second in the javelin competition (29.98m). Christina Brown added a third-place finish in the shot put (8.92m).

The Harrisburg girls picked up a handful of second and third-place finishes but were denied any gold medals. Poppy Spry finished runner-up in the pole vault competition (2.6m), and Bradey Simpson added a second-place throw in the discus event (29.27m). Rounding out the field events, Kori Crane placed third in the triple jump (10.29m), followed by a third-place distance in the long jump by Addison Nichols (4.41m).

The Glasgow girls earned most of their points in the distance races, led by Addison Barringhaus. A state qualifier a year ago, she won the two-mile race (13:07.38) and placed second in the 1,600-meter run (5:56.35).

Barringhaus also ran the first leg of the Lady Jackets’ 4x800-meter relay, which picked up third place at 11:49.76. Jaclyn Jonston, Paysen Thies, and Hannah DeMint rounded out the four-person roster.

The Lady Jackets picked up a handful of fourth and fifth-place finishes in the field and relay events, as well as four sixth-place performances.

The Class 1 Higbee girls posted one top-three finish. Senior Ronnie Welch came in third in the high jump (1.52m). Kiersten Rockett earned points for the Lady Tigers with a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (56.00), followed by a sixth-place time of 29.81 seconds by Reagan Derboven in the 200-meter dash and a seventh-place time of 20.29 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles by Billie Westfall.

Rounding out area girls’ teams was New Franklin. Junior Lily Chitwood led the team with a second-place time of 2:38.16 in the 800 meters, followed by younger sister Belle Chitwood in seventh (2:50.67).

Belle Chitwood also finished fifth in the high jump with a score of 1.42 meters. Lilly Kaullen added an eighth-place finish with a height of 1.37 meters.

The Lady Bulldogs’ 4x200-meter relay team was New Franklin’s final point finisher. Kinsley Keeton, Kaullen, Belle Chitwood, and Lily Chitwood finished seventh with a time of 2:02.30.

Fayette, Glasgow, and New Franklin will all compete against one another again on Friday at the Lowell Eaton Relays hosted by Harrisburg.
