Fayette Middle School football begins on high note

Posted

The Fayette Falcon middle school football team took the field last Tuesday against the Paris Coyotes and came away with a 26-22 victory.

While this was not the fast-paced action of the high school teams that represent the same cities, it was a meeting of two well-matched teams that soon will be the young men that play under the Friday night lights.

Paris jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but that lead was to be short lived. Fayette got the ball back after the kickoff and drove to the Paris 25-yard line. Payton Oeth took care of the remaining yardage as he bulled his way into the end zone making the score 8-6.

The score remained the same until late in the second quarter when LeKee Eubanks cut loose on a 40 yard run to take the ball within five yards of the end zone. After failing twice to punch the ball across, quarterback Ledger Conrow snuck it in with 2.5 seconds to go in the half giving Fayette a 14-8 lead at the half.

In the third quarter Paris tied it up before Oeth punched it over on a three yard touchdown run.

Carter Vroman then scored another touchdown for the Falcons in the fourth quarter before Paris managed a 50-yard run near the end of the game.

In the end, the Falcons prevailed 26-22.

A malfunctioning scoreboard made it difficult for players and fans to keep track of the score and time.

The Falcons squared off against Slater p.m. Tuesday after this paper went to press and travel to Marceline on September 21 for a 6 p.m. tilt.
