A veteran police officer was sworn into the Fayette department last week. Taylor Werkmeister took the oath of office from Mayor Greg Stidham on Wednesday afternoon, February 12, before working his first training shift in Fayette.
Originally from St. Louis, Officer Werkmeister served with the Boonville PD from May 2020 until November 2022. Most recently, he served with the Glasgow Police Department. His last day there was Sunday, February 9.
Officer Werkmeister will spend a minimum of two weeks training here.
The Fayette Police Department is still short one officer until mid-March. City Marshal David Ford confirmed the city council voted to hire another officer during the closed session portion of its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 11. Curtis Robinson will begin training in Fayette after he graduates from the police academy next month.
Fayette keeps a roster of seven officers in addition to the City Marshal.
