Fayette schools cancel winter concerts

The Clark Middle School and Fayette High School winter concerts will be virtual this year. The announcement was made Monday morning. Additionally, there will be no winter concerts for Daly Elementary.

In an announcement to parents, high school principal Patrick Tray explained that the performances will be recorded and posted online. Details will be forthcoming. The concert was scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14.

“We value the arts and in-person performance, but at this time safety is our utmost concern,” said Mr. Tray in an email Monday. “Thank you for your understanding as we all try to navigate this ever-changing environment.”

The Daly Elementary concert, originally scheduled for this Friday, Dec. 11, has been canceled altogether. Plans existed to host the concert by individual classes with sanitary measures taking place in between performances. An email to parents from DES principal Cheri Huster said the school will post snapshots of what classes had been working toward on each classroom’s Seesaw or Google Classroom page.

The Fayette school district resumed in-person classes on Dec. 1 after transitioning to online learning on Nov. 17 (see related story on front page). The district remains at Yellow Level.
