Fayette R-III public schools are closed throughout the month of March due to concerns over COVID-19. It hopes to resume classes Wednesday, April 1.
The initial announcement on Monday from the district said that school would be in session Tuesday. But shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, the school sent out the alert that “based on new information that the district received this evening,” school would shut down through the month of March.
The Fayette Advertiser was still working to determine what this “new information” is as of press time Tuesday.
While the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) decided to allow spring contests and practices to resume, it left final decisions up to each school district. With the closure, Fayette will not hold any practices or competitions until April 1.
A post on the social media website Twitter from the Fayette High School baseball team stated that “as of right now, the season is not over.”
