People of Fayette, some of you may be aware that the Fayette Senior Center is in need of funds. This center is operating strictly on donations. This has always been separate from the nutrition program, which has been funded elsewhere. Some of this is changing. While Aging Best still covers wages, workers comp, and other employment expenses for the staff (Administrator, Cook and Kitchen Aid) and so far is still funding the meal delivery program. This is all paid by the $5.00 meal donation. However, most of the food that is prepared at the center is now being funded by donations as well. We have several regular donors, helping all they can, but the need is always there.
We, the board are, and always have been, responsible for building repair and grounds repair and maintenance, utilities, property and liability insurance from the donations that we receive. Some of the equipment costs and repairs are also our responsibility. We have some wonderful volunteers helping to keep the costs of running this business down by answering phones, calling home-bound clients picking up food in Columbia and volunteering to deliver home-bound meals. We are now planning to have a fund raiser to replace our steam table. It is leaking and cannot be repaired. We were told some time ago that a new one, comparable to what we have now, can cost around $10,000.00. Of course, we are seeking an alternative solution, smaller, used, etc.
Be watching for notification of the fund raiser in the near future. Stop by for lunch. We serve 11:00 to 12:30. See the many ways you could volunteer or donate. Board members are always available to help answer any questions you may have.
It would be a shame if we had to close but this is a very real possibility.
Thank you.
