Fayette softball now 19-1

After traveling to Fayette twice in a week’s time and returning home empty-handed both times, the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs may have wondered what had hit them. They could not be blamed for that sentiment though, as that has been the fate of all but one team to face the Lady Falcons this season. The only team that has managed to beat Fayette was Battle High in Columbia as the Class 5 school scored only four runs to Fayette’s one on the last day of August.

Seeking to avenge the Fayette tournament championship game loss on September 18, the Lady Bulldogs returned to Fayette Thursday for the rematch.

Harrisburg sent junior Carli Ellis to the circle to face the Falcons. Ellis went four innings giving up only six hits.

Sophomore Abigail Rosson got the lone hit for the Lady Bulldogs.

Fayette senior Jordyn Ball was almost unhittable on Thursday as she went five innings, striking out 12 of the 17 batters she faced while walking one and giving up one hit.

Juniors Addison Newell, Preslee Sunderland, Hannah Quint, Madison Lawson, and sophomores Kaylea Felten and Addison Powell, each collected one hit on the day.

Preslee Sunderland drove in four and scored three while Quint drove in two and scored two.

The win moved Fayette to 18-1 and Harrisburg to 4-12.

On Monday, the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs traveled to Fayette for a District tilt.

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead, the Falcons ran into some trouble in the third as South Callaway was able to come back with four runs of their own.

Leading off the top of the third with a walk, the Lady Bulldogs were able to string together a single and three doubles to garner the four runs.

That was all senior hurler Jordyn Ball would give up as she ended up striking out 17 batters while only giving up five hits and three walks on the night.

Freshman Skylar Sunderland was 3-for-4 on the night.

Newell, Preslee Sunderland, junior Megan Lewis, Quint, and senior Bella Asbury each collected two hits while Kaylea Felten added one.

Fayette hosted Paris on Tuesday evening. That game was scheduled to start after the Advertiser went to press.

The state-ranked Lady Falcons will travel on Thursday to Marceline to face the 13-1-1 Tigers at 5 p.m.
