The Fayette Lady Falcons scored 34 runs and allowed only one as they swept into New Franklin and took the 7th Annual Terry Early New Franklin Softball Tournament over the weekend.
With temperatures soaring, Fayette relied on the arms of freshman Skylar Sunderland in the first game and senior Jordyn Ball in the second and third games. Neither pitcher would disappoint with Sunderland striking out seven Jamestown batters while only walking one and giving up only three hits while facing 16 batters.
Ball, on the other hand, pitched six innings in the second game against Atlanta, giving up no hits while striking out 13 and walking only two.
In the championship game on Saturday, Ball went to the circle again, this time to face Community. One hit batter was the only thing separating Ball from a perfect game. She faced 16 batters and struck out 11.
Offensively, senior Bella Asbury and junior Hannah Quint paced the Lady Falcons over the tournament with five hits apiece.
Junior Megan Lewis drove in seven runs while Quint and junior classmate Preslee Sunderland each scored six.
The Lady Falcons traveled to New Franklin again on Tuesday to face the Lady Bulldogs in a game that was to be contested after this paper went to press. They return to Fayette today for a contest with Russellville/Calvary Lutheran at 5 p.m.
Fayette will continue its home stand on Thursday against conference Westran at 5 p.m., before hosting the Fayette softball tournament on Saturday.
