Fayette suffers first loss in extra innings at Russellville

Fayette put runners on base, but couldn’t bring enough of them home in a 2-1 eight-inning loss at Russellville on Wednesday night.

The Falcons (5-1) were just 1-8 with a runner in scoring position during their first loss of the season. The Lady Indians (8-2) scored a run on two hits in the first inning and then did not have another hit until the eighth inning.

Jordyn Ball allowed just two walks in addition to the three hits over seven and 1/3 innings.

Fayette tied the game in the third inning with a two-out single from Breanna Estes. Abby Nation scored the run after a single and stolen base. Addison Newell drew a walk with two outs to bring Estes to the plate.

Newell also had a first-inning double. Leah Lembke doubled in the fourth inning and Nation had a leadoff single in the fifth inning, but Fayette was unable to come up with a key hit.

A one-out walk and a single gave Russellville the walk-off win in extra innings.

The two teams combined for just two errors, three walks, and seven strikeouts in 61 plate appearances.
