The City of Fayette is now advertising for two prominent City Hall positions. Fayette will hire a new city administrator and a new city clerk.
The two jobs had previously been combined when then city clerk Robin Triplett was promoted city administrator in 2004. She held both jobs, which led to a critical lack of checks and balances that culminated in state fines that exceeded $150,000 after it was revealed Triplett failed to timely file 2018 financial reports with the state. She was fired in March and John Hancock was hired on an interim basis.
Part of Hancock’s job is to recruit a new city administrator. He has advocated that the clerk and administrator positions once again be separated.
Hancock is contracted for 90 days, but will continue to serve until a permanent administrator is hired.
Advertisements for both positions appear on Page 7 of this newspaper.
The qualifications for the city administrator include a college degree in public or municipal administration or equivalent, and experience in financial, administration and public relations fields.
The first review for applications of both positions will be May 18.
