A Fayette woman was arrested Sunday by Columbia police in connection to the death of an infant. Jennifer Johnson, 44, is currently being held in the Boone County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, child abuse, and first-degree child endangerment.
On Monday she was charged with second-degree murder, a Class A felony.
According to Columbia Police, at about 11:16 p.m. on Sunday, April 18, officers responded to the 1000 block of Elleta Boulevard in north-central Columbia after receiving a report of a death. They discovered a deceased eight-month-old girl. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division determined the death was a homicide.
Johnson, whose address is listed in Fayette, is currently serving a five-year term of probation following a plea of guilty to second-degree domestic assault in April of 2019.
