Few challenge school board incumbents

Posted

The filing period for the April 4 school board elections officially closed on December 27, with one contested race in Harrisburg for the Board of Education. Districts in Fayette, New Franklin, Glasgow, and Higbee are not expected to hold elections since the number of filings matches the number of open seats.

In Fayette, two-term incumbent Shauna Young has filed for re-election. Sarah Wies and Aaron Bentley filed for second terms. Three New Franklin incumbents, Board President Jeff Chitwood, Vice President Sam Hackman, and Judd Evans, have filed for three openings. In Glasgow, incumbents Chad R. Fuemmeler, Kent Sanders, and David Makenzie have filed for three open seats. In Higbee, Board President Susan Ware, Secretary Morgan Rockett, and Ernie Boggs, Jr. have all filed for re-election with no challengers.

A four-way race for school board has opened up in Harrisburg. Josh Byrd will challenge incumbents Kathleen VanRoekel, Heidi DeMuth, and Scott Eaton for three seats.
