FHS celebrates 2020 Homecoming Week

Posted

Fayette High School is celebrating Homecoming all week. Although the normally festive school week leading up to Friday night’s football has been pared down a bit to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines, celebrations will go on. Dress-up days began with Texas Tuesday when students were encouraged to dress up as cowboys and cowgirls. Other days include Washington DC Wednesday, Tropical Thursday, and Finally Home Friday.

The Homecoming assembly will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the high school football field rather than the gym to allow for distancing. The parade will leave the school around 2:15 p.m. and proceed to Fayette’s downtown courthouse square. The marching band will be allowed to take part in the parade. Homecoming royalty will be featured in the backs of pickup trucks rather than convertibles to allow for recommended distancing. Only senior football players will ride atop two fire trucks. Freshman, sophomore, and junior players will ride on flatbed trailers. No candy will be thrown to paradegoers and there will be no class floats.

The King and Queen will be crowned during halftime of Friday’s football game against conference opponent Paris. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
