Fowler receives service award

Posted

The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives (AMEC) annually presents its Distinguished Service Award to someone who “selflessly and tirelessly devotes themselves to the progress of rural electrification.” This year the award was presented to Richard Fowler, manager of Howard Electric Cooperative, on October 7 during the annual meeting of the association.

“Bestowing this honor on Richard Fowler is most appropriate, because he has been an advocate for rural people throughout his career,” said Caleb Jones, CEO of the association. In presenting the award, Jones cited Fowler’s dedication, tireless efforts, and willingness to serve as a role model for others to follow.

Most recipients of this award are nominated by their cooperative. Fowler received no less than three nominations, a tribute to not only his devotion to the program but his willingness to share his wisdom with others.

Fowler holds the status of being the longest-serving manager currently at a Missouri Electric Cooperative, with more than 30 years of experience at the helm of Howard Electric Cooperative.

During his tenure, the Howard County Community Fund was established. Using donated capital and earned interest, an electric co-op with just 3,500 meters has returned more than $100,000 to the area, helping nonprofits, service organizations, and school systems thrive. He’s also worked to bring new jobs to the area. He is an active leader in his church and a member of the Fayette Rotary Club.

The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives is the Jefferson City-based statewide service organization for Missouri’s electric cooperatives.
