A Franklin man is in the Howard County Jail charged with one count each of second-degree molestation of a child under 12 years of age, a Class B felony, and third-degree molestation of a child under the age of 14, a Class C felony. Darrell Maupin, 54, was arrested by the Howard County Sheriff’s Department on Friday, August 20.
He is currently held on a $50,000 cash-only bond for each charge.
Probable cause statements for the two cases have been sealed by the court.
A bond review hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 26 before Judge James Cooksey in Howard County court.
This is not Maupin’s first brush with the law. In 2018 he was charged with second-degree sexual misconduct, a Class C misdemeanor. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 28 for a trial setting for that charge.
In 2003 the court granted an order of protection against Maupin, in which he was to have no contact with the minor children of his ex-wife.
Maupin has also served jail sentences for traffic-related crimes and served two years of probation after he pleaded guilty to second-degree property damage in 2005.
