Quess Frerking didn’t get a chance play baseball during his senior year at Fayette, but he’ll get an opportunity to play the game again at North Central Missouri College next season.
Frerking had a signing ceremony at the Fayette football field on Tuesday, June 2. He visited his future school for a showcase game last summer.
“The baseball facilities are really nice, you can tell that they like baseball there and that they want people to play there,” Frerking said.
The Falcon catcher led his team with 13 hits last season. The Fayette coaches were expecting the team to improve this year with the senior class leading the way, but the championships were canceled by the MSHSAA and no games were played. Despite the disappointment, Frerking has continued to work on his skills and conditioning.
“He just has an extreme passion for baseball,” head coach Charlie Trick said.
“He loves playing, he’s very hard working and he’s been one of our most consistent guys in showing up in the offseason. He’s blessed with talent and combined with his work ethic, I think he’s going to see a lot of success at the next level.”
The NCMC Pirates, who compete in the NJCAA, finished the 2018-19 season with a record of 15-37, and were off to a 10-11 start this spring before the coronavirus pandemic canceled the remainder of the season.
Frerking plans to study business management or construction management in the fall. One of the things that drew him to Trenton was his relationship with NCMC assistant Tyler Hudlow.
“I used to play for (Hudlow) back when I was twelve,” Frerking said. “That was one of the draws, that I get to play for him again. He taught me how to catch and showed me the game.”
