After an impressive showing at the Gulf Shores Invitational this past weekend, Central Methodist freshman Mykala Johnico was named the Heart Pitcher of the Week by the conference office on Monday.
This marks the first Heart Pitcher of the Week honor for Johnico. The native of Topeka, Kansas had a monster showing against Lyon College in the opener Friday, tossing a no-hitter with a career-high 19 strikeouts in the 2-0 shut out. That was the second no-hitter in as many starts for Johnico.
She also picked up a save against Texas A&M Texarkana on Saturday, pitching the final two innings and striking out six of seven batters faced.
Overall, Johnico struck out 32 total batters through 13.2 innings of work.
The Lady Eagles hosted Baker University on Monday in CMU’s home opener.
