Get in the spirit with Christmas light scavenger hunt

Posted

Families tired of being stuck inside during the age of COVID-19 now have an excuse to get out of the house. A scavenger hunt has been devised which focuses on local Christmas decorations.

Courtney Pettit said the idea came from a college friend who lives in Illinois. It is similar to the Teddy Bear scavenger hunt that took place locally last spring.

“It’s just something that families can do together between now and Christmas, we had so much fun in the spring doing the bear hunt with our girls that I thought that this would bring a little bit of extra joy and happiness to our community when we need it so badly,” Pettit said.

She reached out on Facebook for people to include one of their prominent yard decorations, and she received several responses. Then she drove around town with her family picking out other items to make the list. She formulated a list of 34 unique items families can look for and check off.

The scavenger hunt is not designed as a contest. Rather it is a way for families to spend quality time together outside of the house this holiday season.

“Hopefully families will get out of the house and spend some quality time making memories,” she said.
