A walk-off double in the bottom of the fifth inning by Addison Gibbs gave the Clark Middle School Lady Falcons their first win of the year, 9-7, over Versailles at home on Tuesday, September 20.
Tied at 7-7 with one out, Gibbs sent a line drive to left field to score Emma Hilgedick from third and Whitlee Allphin from second to give CMS its first win of the season.
Gibbs went 2-for-3 on the day with a team-high four RBI and a run scored. Allphin led the Fayette hitting with a 3-for-3 performance. She scored three runs and walked once. Greycen Syferd went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Kennady Vroman and Emma Hagerman rounded out the Falcon hitting with one each. Vroman also scored one run and walked.
Fayette outhit Versailles 10-5 and drove in seven runs.
Vroman got her first win of the season toeing the rubber. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on five hits, with seven strikeouts, and six walks.
Fayette is now 1-7 for the season. The Lady Falcons were scheduled to travel to Lewis & Clark foe Paris on Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press. On Thursday they return home to host Marceline in a conference showdown. Both games start at 5 p.m.
