Glasgow comes back for 8-5 win over Slater

The Glasgow softball team picked up its third win of the season with an 8-5 victory over Slater in the Fayette Softball Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Jackets trailed 3-1 after three innings, but scored multiple runs in each of the last three innings to come back for the win.

“We played defense a lot better than we have this last week,” coach Allison Foster said. “Closer to the end of the game, we came alive with our bats and baserunning. That gave us a bigger lead and more confidence heading into the last inning.

“Keyanna (Colvin) did a really good job pitching today, and we did a pretty good job of getting behind her and defending anything that was hit to us.”

Olivia Fuemmeler drew a walk, stole second and scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning. She tripled and scored in the fifth. Malia Carmack singled and scored in the fifth inning as well.

Kaylyn Campbell was hit by a pitch twice, scored a run in the fourth, and had a key RBI double in the sixth inning.

Campbell said her approach in the sixth inning was simple. “Just keeping my eye on the ball and making sure the bat hits the ball,” she explained.

Hadley Sanders drew three walks and scored a run. Miranda Cooper went 2-3 at the plate with a walk. Keyanna Colvin was hit by a pitch, drew a walk, and scored a run.

Emma Massie had a hit and Brooke Hammons drew a walk.

Layne Sanders doubled, and also had an RBI double in Glasgow’s 16-1 loss to Fayette. The Lady Jackets have a record of 3-3 after splitting the games in Fayette.

With three wins just six games into the season, the Glasgow softball team is assured its best record since 2015.
