It was a disappointing end to an up-and-down season for the Glasgow Lady Jackets Saturday afternoon in New Franklin as the Salisbury Lady Panthers, seeded second, defeated fourth-seeded, Glasgow, 60-30, in the Class 2 District 7 girl’s basketball final. 

The loss ended the high school careers of three Glasgow seniors, two of whom, Brenna Hubbard and Malia Carmack; finished in the elite 1,000-point club. The third senior was forward Jillian Johanning. “Our seniors have led these kids to understand that it’s not an easy process to show up and be ready to go from the beginning of practice to the end of practice,” said Glasgow head coach Molly Monnig.

At the end of the first quarter, the game was still up for grabs with Salisbury leading 8-7. Salisbury broke the game open in the second, outscoring Glasgow, 18-4 to take a 26-11 lead at the half. By the end of the third Salisbury had extended its lead to 42-23 before ending the game at 60-30.

“Defensively, Salisbury’s speed caused us a lot of problems,” said Monnig.” “Our open looks closed up quickly and we just couldn’t get many shots to fall.”

Fittingly, Carmack and Hubbard, who have played together since fourth grade, finished their last game together with 13 points apiece. Junior Macie Parks added three and Johanning  added one to round out the Glasgow scoring.

“I told the girls that the season is a journey,” said Monnig. “You can’t evaluate your season based on the end result and where you ended up in the district or state or whatever it was.

I’m proud of these girls for growing throughout the season, for battling and stepping up to meet different challenges.  We’re always fortunate in our community to have good kids and good families to always have a bright future.”

Glasgow ends the season with a 12-14 record.

With the win, both the boys and girls district titles belong to Salisbury.
