Glasgow High School won the high school division of the NO MOre Trash! Trash-Can-Decorating Contest, sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT).
The award was presented by MoDOT Director of Maintenance Darin Hamelink, who visited the school and spoke to the student body about the importance of keeping Missouri highways clean. Director Hamelink praised the entry submitted by Glasgow High School and challenged students to keep the protection of the environment at the forefront of their minds and actions.
The NO MOre Trash! Trash-Can-Decorating Contest is part of Missouri’s “No MOre Trash!” campaign, which aims to raise awareness and discourage littering. The contest encourages Missouri students to join the fight against litter by decorating and displaying a large trash can with the “No MOre Trash!” logo and a litter prevention message.
As part of the contest, $200 is awarded to one entry in each competition category. The school submitting the grand prize entry receives $600 and a trophy. With permission from the winning school, the grand prize-winning trash can will also be displayed at the MoDOT building on the State Fairgrounds during the Missouri State Fair in August.
