With a free throw late in the second quarter last Tuesday, senior Malia Carmack became the second Glasgow Lady Jacket to register her 1,000th career point this season.
Exactly one week earlier, classmate Brenna Hubbard also stepped to the free-throw line and dropped in the 1,000th point of her career.
Both free throws represented a dream long held by both players. “It feels pretty good,” Hubbard said. “Most players aren’t able to do it, and then me being able to do it, I thought was pretty cool.”
It’s what I’ve been waiting for all my life. I’ve been playing since third grade so it was like a really big accomplishment.”
“Malia’s been my girl since third grade,” said Hubbard. “Nothing compares to her getting her’s tonight. Her moment was just as special as mine, I was just as excited for her.”
Carmack said that scoring 1,000 points was definitely a goal, but she tried to keep it in the back of her head because people said focusing on scoring was not a good goal to have. “But I’m glad I got it and I’m glad I got it with Brenna. We’ve been playing for a long time together.
“I was really excited for her, I was jumping on her back I was so excited,” Carmack said of Hubbard.
“It was really cool to have my family here,”said Carmack. “Even my Mimi from the nursing home was able to be here.”
Carmack’s milestone was reached during Glasgow’s 53-30 win over the Fayette girls at the Tuesday night session of the 91st Glasgow Invitational Tournament.
