Glasgow Lady Jackets roll over Madison

With a resounding 71-13 win over Madison Friday night, the Glasgow Lady Jackets evened their season record to 3-3.

From the start, Glasgow asserted its offensive strength by jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first three minutes. By the end of the half, the Lady Jackets had extended the lead to twenty with the score 20-6.

Defensively, it seemed as if the Lady Jackets did not want the offense to be the brightest part of their game. They held the Lady Panthers to a total of two points in the second quarter. The offense, however, still came through with 20 points to hold a 46-8 lead at intermission.

“Defensively, we worked pretty hard,” said Glasgow head coach Molly Monnig.

The offense kept rolling in the third, putting up 21 points while holding Madison to five making the score 67-13.

With the clock rolling, coach Monnig and Madison coach Cory Riley began substituting freely and the fourth quarter wound down. Glasgow put up four points in the fourth while holding the Lady Panthers scoreless.

“We really ran the floor well tonight,” said coach Monnig. “(Senior) Malia Carmack shot well from outside and (senior) Brenna Hubbard outletted (passes) her from the inside.”

Even sitting out most of the fourth quarter did not stop Malia Carmack from putting 30 points on the board. Junior Macie Parks added 14 while Brenna Hubbard put in nine.

Freshman Kaitlyn Monnig tacked on seven while sophomore Layne Sanders added five. Freshman Hannah DeMint hit for four and senior Jillian Johanning finished up with two.

“I really thought the girls shot the ball with a lot of confidence tonight,” said coach Morning. “That’s something we’ve been missing for awhile. It helps when you get shots to fall early.” Glasgow traveled to Slater Tuesday night for a game scheduled to be played after The Advertiser went to press. The Lady Jackets host Sturgeon on Friday night before taking part in the 41st Annual Wildcat Classic in Slater next week.
