Golden Study Club sends three students to annual Sophomore Pilgrimage

Posted

Three Howard County high school students were chosen to join hundreds from across Missouri for the annual sophomore pilgrimage. Thomas Elliott from Fayette, Alayna Witte from Glasgow, and Alexander McGruder from New Franklin were selected by the GFWC Golden Study Club of Fayette.

Each year the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) of Missouri sponsors Missouri high school students to hear from elected state officials and tour various state buildings in Jefferson City.

The pilgrimage is a statewide event that honors sophomore students who were selected from their schools based on their scholarship, demonstration of high standards of honor, courage, citizenship, leadership, and service. It is important to recognize these outstanding students as they expand their skills in school programs, community involvement, and family.

After the students toured the Governor's Mansion, the State Capitol, and the Supreme Court Building, they went to lunch, where they were welcomed by GFWC of Missouri President, Amy Boone. The students heard remarks from Governor Michael Parson, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, Treasurer Vivek Malek, Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick, Judge of the Missouri Supreme Court Mary Russell, and Clerk of the Missouri Supreme Court Betsy AuBuchon.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs is an international women's organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
