Harrisburg hosts first Coach Brian T. Simpson Invite

Teams from 20 schools migrated to Columbia Saturday, for the 1st Annual Brian T. Simpson X-Country meet hosted by Harrisburg High School. The event is named in honor of the late cross-country, track, and baseball coach whose life was cut short in a tragic accident as he was driving the cross-country team to a meet. The team hopes to honor the coach for years to come with the annual event.

Several area runners earned top honors at the event.

In boy’s varsity finishing in the top 25 were Glasgow freshman Jackson Strodtman with a fifth-place time of 18:06.16, while classmate Zachery Sayler finished 23rd with a time of 19:46.66.

On the girl’s side, the top local area finisher was Glasgow freshman Addison Barringhaus. She not only finished fourth with a time of 21:25.67, she also broke the Glasgow High School record.

Senior teammate Malia Carmack finished15th, covering the course in 22:39.81.

Harrisburg’s Emma Fischer, a sophomore, finished 25th at 24:11.5.

Three Glasgow athletes, freshman Hannah DeMint, junior Macie Parks, and sophomore KatiJo Schaefer finished 33rd, 38th, and 40th with respective times of 24:57.73, 25:40.97, and 25:53.59.

Harrisburg senior Kaitlyn Starbuck finished 41st at 26:13.03.

Another Glasgow freshman, Kaitlyn Monnig, ran the course in 26:19.20 four a 44th place finish.

Junior Hailey Derboven was the highest placing Higbee runner in 46th place at 26:24.14, followed in 53rd place by senior teammate Natalie Bush with a time of 27:39.97.

Harrisburg sophomores Jill Davidson and Brittany Johnmeyer finished 54th and 58th with times of 27:43.90 and 28:21.83.

Finishing out the local runners was Glasgow senior Tehya Sellmeyer in 63rd place with a time of 29:38.87.

The team finished fourth in points behind Steelville, Clark County, and Monroe City.
