Harrisburg softball enjoys senior day win

The Lady Bulldogs of Harrisburg wanted to get busy celebrating their lone senior, Katie Starbuck after their final regular season home game last Wednesday. To do so, they needed to make quick work of the visiting Sturgeon Bulldogs. They did so by collecting 15 runs in three innings to defeat Sturgeon 15-0.

Sophomore Emma Fischer started in the circle for Harrisburg, facing eight batters and striking out four with no hits allowed. Fischer then gave way to junior Brecca Thornhill for the third inning. Thornhill faced six batters and gave up the lone hit by Sturgeon.

Sophomores Abby Rosson and Katelyn Blakemore each went 2-for-2 at the plate with Rosson collecting a triple and scoring three runs.

Starbuck went 1-for-3 while Thornhill and fellow junior Carli Ellis each contributed a hit apiece as did freshman Charlotte Canote.

Thornhill’s hit was a double and she drove in four runs on the day.

The next day the Lady Bulldogs travelled to Cairo where they came up short, 14-13 against Northeast. Northeast scored their final run in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh.

Fischer went 3-for-3 with four RBI’s.

Harrisburg (7-14) had the No. 6 seed in the Class 2 District 3 tournament and was set to play Montgomery County (15-7) onTuesday at Harrisburg after The Advertiser went to press. The winner of that game will play the winner of a matchup between New Bloomfield and North Callaway today at 6:30 p.m.
