Harrisburg survives New Franklin comeback with 10-9 walk-off win

Harrisburg watched a six-run lead disappear as New Franklin scored eight runs over the final three innings, but Kaydence Timbrook came through with the walk-off hit in the seventh to give Harrisburg a 10-9 victory.

Harrisburg led 7-1 after four innings, but it was tied 9-9 by the bottom of the seventh. Timbrook stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and no outs.

“I was thinking about how I had to hit, or it was going to be bad,” Timbrook said. She hit a soft fly into center field, past a drawn in outfield, to score the game-winning run.

“I was scared because there were two strikes, but it felt really good,” she said.

Katelyn Blakemore singled to lead off the seventh inning for Harrisburg. Hailey Emanuel put the Bulldogs in a great position to win, laying down a bunt and beating the throw to first base.

“It was pretty much down the middle, I knew I had to get it down,” Emanuel said after the game.

Her bunt single put runners at first and second with no outs, and New Franklin elected to walk Katie Starbuck to face Timbrook with the bases full. Pinch runner Haleigh Fike scored the winning run.

“I’m really proud of them,” Emanuel said about her teammates.  “Because usually when we get down, we kind of get flustered and we don’t really keep our composure.

“I thought we did really well tonight. Our girls really stepped up. Kaydence in that last at bat really came through.”

Harrisburg took advantage of two errors and a hit batter to score three runs in the third inning.

Katelyn Blakemore hit a soft fly and reached base on an error, scoring Emma and Olivia Fischer. Emanuel tripled to score Blakemore, giving Harrisburg a 6-1 lead.

Emanuel finished the game 3-4 at the plate. Timbrook was 2-5 with three RBI. Katie Starbuck was 2-3 with two walks. Olivia Fischer had a hit. Emma Fischer and Baylie Combs each had an RBI.

Trailing 7-1 in the fourth inning, Abby Maupin and Isabelle Matney each doubled as the first five New Franklin runners reached base with no outs. Kayce Hundley cut the lead to 7-5 with a single to right field.

Timbrook drove in two runs in the fifth to extend the Harrisburg lead to four.

Maupin, Alexia Sprick, Matney and Hundley hit four consecutive 2-out singles to score three runs and make it a one-run game heading into the seventh.

Carly Dorson singled and scored the tying run on a sacrifice groundout from Kelsi Fair, but New Franklin left the go-ahead run at third base and Harrisburg answered with the walk-off hit.

Maupin, Matney and Sophia Held each finished 3-4 at the plate. Hundley was 2-4 with three RBI. Dorson was 2-4 as well.
