Harrisburg takes two from Slater

The Harrisburg Bulldogs routed the Slater Wildcats17-3 and 15-1 in games contested at Battle High School in Columbia on Saturday.

After being no-hit by New Franklin earlier in the week, the shell-shocked Wildcats must have wondered what had hit them.

In the first game, Harrisburg hit hard and hit early, jumping out to a 12-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Slater was never able to recover and the Bulldogs wrapped up a 17-2 win.

Harrisburg senior Tanner Lanes crushed a home run while freshman Ike DeMuth had a triple. Not to be outdone, senior Trevor Smoot hit two triples.

Sophomore Carter Bremer and junior Braden Ott each added a double with Ott going three-for-four.

Sophomore Hunter Cole, junior Anthony Alicea, junior Logan Fritts, and Demuth each contribute two hits apiece.

Alicea emerged as the winning pitcher, going two innings and striking out five. Alicea gave up only one hit.

In the second game, Slater got on the board first with one run in the top of the first. That inning would spell the end of the Slater offense as Smoot, Cole, and DeMuth combined for a one-hitter.

Alicea lit up the board with a home run while Fritts recorded a triple. Junior Joshua Cochran added a double as did classmate Jordan Sager.

Hunter Cole and Braden Ott each recorded two hits in the nightcap while freshman Aiden Grindstaff, sophomore Austin Starbuck, and junior Landon Edwards each recorded a single.

The two wins pushed Harrisburg’s record to 10-13.
