Harrisburg’s Cole and Timbrook smash school records

Glasgow Yellowjackets and Harrisburg Bulldogs compete at Thunderbird Early Invite

Last Tuesday, Harrisburg high school track records that had stood for more than 40 years were broken by two sophomores, Kaydence Timbrook and Hunter Cole.

Competing at the Thunderbird Early Invite at North Callaway High School, Timbrook posted a time of 13.31 seconds in the girls’ 100-meter dash, breaking the old record of 13.34 set by Suzie Rowland in 1972 and tied by Jaimie Wanner in 2003.

“Kaydence is a natural sprinter who has gotten much stronger physically, and is becoming a leader on a team that lacks any seniors,” said Harrisburg track and field coach Blake Logan.

“She will continue to break her own record throughout her career and is going to get the 200-meter record soon. The greatest thing about her is she is only a sophomore.”

Cole demolished the boy’s records in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, and the 400-meter dash. His time in the 100 was 11.50, breaking the record of 11.64 set in 1979 by Kenny Davidson. In the 200, the record of 23.44, set in 1977 by Blake Spry and tied in 1979 by Todd Twenter, was beaten by 0.39 seconds when Cole covered the distance in 23.05.

Finally, running the 400 in 52.21 seconds, Cole was able to break the record of 52.84, set by Spry in 1977.

Cole won both the 200- and 400-meter events but fell short in the 100-meter dash by .18 of a second.

“Hunter’s record-breaking performance was a night to remember,” said Logan. “I have never heard of an athlete breaking three records in the same track meet. He has such a bright future in the sport and we are so happy that he, too, is only a sophomore.”

Glasgow finished second in the girls’ division with 93.3 points with Harrisburg in third at 89.4. On the boys' side, Harrisburg took third with 102.4 points. Glasgow finished seventh with 56.8.

Finishing just behind Cole in third place in the 100 was junior teammate Austin Darwent with a time of 11.91 seconds. Also finishing in the top 10 for Harrisburg was sophomore Carter Bremer with a time of 12.23.
