Although elected in 2020, COVID prevented Harrisburg’s Steve Combs from being inducted last year into the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
This years Induction ceremony to be held in October in Springfield, will include both the 2020 and 2021 Hall of Fame Classes.
Joining Combs in the 2020 class will be Jeff Bowland, Greg Buesher, Nancy Fahey, Duane Hiler, Gary Koch, Gerry Martin Pete McBride, Todd Shannon, and Steve Shepherd. In addition, Coach Cheryl Burnett will receive the 2020 Gary Filbert Lifetime Achievement Award.
Combs was nominated by his successor and former star player at Harrisburg High School, Kyle Fisher.
Combs has coached for more 20 years and knows how to find a way to win. His coaching career began at Moberly were he served as an assistant coach fo three years. He then moved on as head coach for two years at Louisiana and then 18 years in Harrisburg.
During his time, Combs has earned nine district titles, and delivered six Final Four appearances, two resulting in State Championships, one second-place finish, two third-place finishes, and one fourth-place finish. He has coached 11 All-State players and has also been named the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Class 2 Coach of the Year twice.
“It is an honor to nominate this fine coach,” said Fisher.
