A total of $4,000 was raised for the Fayette band program Sunday afternoon during the inaugural Fall Harvest Supper. Around 33 tables with up to eight people each stretched in two rows along a block of Davis Street on the north side of the courthouse square.
The Harvest Supper was the idea of Howard County resident and Fayette R-III food director Paula Volkmann. She hoped to spread 100 tables around three sides of the square to raise money.
The band is in need of new instruments, and the event will help pay for new ones.
Volkmann’s hope is that Sunday’s event is the first of many to come annually, which will benefit a new charity each year.
