The local Head Start program has secured temporary headquarters for the remainder of the school year. The approximately 20 students now are meeting in leased facilities in the basement of the Church of Christ on Highway 5 in Fayette.

The federal program has operated in Fayette since 1965.

Several weeks ago, heavy rains flooded the basement rooms in the Keller Building which were being used as classrooms by Head Start. There was evidence of extensive mold which apparently has been a reoccurring problem. Officials decided to vacate the Keller facilities for good.

No official announcement has been made, but it is expected that Head Start will seek bids to build or lease a new permanent facility here.
