Health Dept. urges residents to follow CDC quarantine rules

Posted

The Howard County Public Health Department reminds residents that it is important to stay at home while waiting for test results for possible infection with the SARS COVID-19 virus. It is also important for anyone who has received positive test results to remain at home for the full quarantine period set by the CDC, currently a full 10 days after the positive test.

“The Health Department will call you once we have positive test results and complete a case investigation and contact tracing form. After we have completed our documentation, please stay home,” said Health Department Administrator Marsha Broadus, RN.

She added that the Health Department has received reports of some individuals visiting local grocery stores and other public locations after testing positive for the virus, but before their quarantine period had ended. The virus is highly transmissible through the air and infected individuals may put others at higher risk of contracting it if they interact with others before their quarantine period has ended.

The Missouri Health Department website, health.mo.gov, reports eight confirmed and nine probable positive COVID cases in Howard County over the past week. Statewide data shows more than 10,000 new cases of the virus in the past week, and 36 deaths. There are currently more  1,900 COVID-19 patients hospitalized currently, with more than 500 in ICU beds and more than 300 on ventilators.

“Have a family member go to the grocery store or have your meds delivered to you or porch drop off,” Broadus said. “The Health Department wants everyone to be safe.”

According to Missouri’s dashboard, two area school districts have reported cases of COVID-19 for people between the ages of five and 19 and within district boundaries.  The dashboard lists both Fayette and Harrisburg as having between 1 and 10 cases each. Superintendent Jill Wiseman confirmed that Fayette has two positive cases in the district and nine on quarantine. The district does not differentiate between students and staff with regard to the numbers.
