More than 50 area residents turned out Saturday morning at the Fayette First Christian Church for a community health fair — sponsored  by the newly-formed Howard County Health & Wellness Council.

Tony Cook, HCHWC president and event organizer, said 10 new members signed up as council members. The organization is an outgrowth of the Better Self-Management Diabetes Project.

The event offered healthful refreshments along with various services and learning opportunities including:

• Blood pressure and blood sugar check.
• Hands-on evaluation by a chiropractor and reflexologist.
• Massage by a massage therapist.
• Evaluation of risk of falls.
• Medication review by a local pharmacist.
• Information about local fitness activities.

Cook notes that the council’s next major activity will be in connection with the annual Juneteenth celebration June 19.
