Higbee evens record with win over Pilot Grove

Posted

Higbee’s 4-0 lead almost disappeared when the Pilot Grove Tigers scored three runs in the third inning, but the Higbee Tigers came right back with four runs in the next frame to leave Pilot Grove with an 8-5 victory.

Ernie Boggs, Will Spilman, Jordan Fuemmeler had consecutive one-out singles to score a run and load the bases for Anthony White.

White drew a walk to add a run and Brett Nauerth singled to put Higbee up by five runs.

Higbee got off to a great start in the game with leadoff doubles in each of the first two innings.

Derek Rockett hit the first one and scored on Chevy Grimsley’s groundout in the next at bat.

Higbee left two runners on base in the first inning, but came through with clutch hits in the second.

Nauerth hit the leadoff double in the second and Colby Mitchell singled to bring him home. Rocket hit an RBI triple and Grimsley’s second sacrifice put Higbee ahead 4-0.

Boggs finished 2-3 at the plate.

Fuemmeler made the start and gave up no runs on two hits and two walks over two innings. He recorded his last five outs by strikeout. Grimsley, Jamie Smith, and Luke Ritter combined to get the final nine outs.

Higbee now has a record of 3-3 while Pilot Grove drops to 5-4.

Prairie Home pulls away

Prairie Home took advantage of a rough outing for the Higbee bullpen, scoring ten runs in the fifth inning of a 13-1 win on Tuesday.

Rockett made the start and allowed just five hits over the first four innings, but three of those came with two outs in the third inning as the Panthers took a 3-0 lead.

Rockett and Ritter led off the first inning with back-to-back singles, but the Tigers would have just one more hit in the contest.

Jaxon Hudson had a double in the fifth inning to move Boggs to third after he reached base on a dropped third strike. Fuemmeler drove in the run with a groundout to the shortstop.

Rockett struck out five batters over four innings in the loss.
