The Higbee girls had 29 offensive rebounds in a 69-47 win at Keytesville on Friday.

Higbee missed 73 of its 100 field goal attempts, but held Keytesville to just 30 defensive rebounds. Six Higbee players finished with at least four offensive rebounds, and three had double-digit rebounding totals.

Higbee allowed just four points in the second quarter and had a 38-16 lead at halftime.

Devin Clark finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals.

Victoria Gibson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Emma Johnson had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Madison Ferguson had eight points and eight rebounds, while Macey Whisenand had 13 points and led Higbee with four assists.

“We had a couple of girls battling through illness and they full court pressed for 30 minutes, which hasn’t been our typical theme thus far,” Higbee coach Tanner Burton said.

“Devin and Victoria set the tone while we had Emma, Macey, and Madison all stepped up to score and contribute.”

Higbee’s 100 field goal attempts is the third-highest total in a game in the MSHSAA record books. The 60 total rebounds are among the top 20 in state history.

“We continue to move in the right direction,” Burton said. “We have good leaders and they are setting the tone and our youth is feeding off of that leadership. I am a proud coach and love the effort and tenacity the showcased.”

Keytesville 65, Higbee 41

Keetun Redifer led Higbee (4-5) with 19 points and eight rebounds in a 65-41 loss at Keytesville (7-2) on Friday.

Higbee trailed by about 10 points for most of the second half until Keytesville pulled away at the end.

Luke Ritter was injured late in the second quarter after he took an elbow to the face, leaving Higbee with just five players for the rest of the contest.

“The boys battled a tough game and responded well in some adverse situations,” Higbee coach Tanner Burton said.

“We just couldn’t get over the hump when the contest was tight.”

Williams Gibson scored 12 points and had eight rebounds. Chad Crawford scored four points. Jamie Smith had three points and eight rebounds. Luke Ritter had two assists and two steals in his limited time.

Redifer was 4-7 from inside the arc and 3-16 from the 3-point line.

“Keetun had a nice game and I think we will continue to see this output,” Burton said.

“If he will put together four quarters offensively, he could really alter the dynamic of our team. I was proud of these guys for the way they battled.”
