Brian SumpterA Higbee man is in the Randolph County Justice Center after damaging property at a Casey’s and at a post office.

Brian Sumpter, 49, of Higbee, is charged with property damage, burglary and trespassing. He is in the Randolph County Justice Center under a $12,500 bond.

Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an alarm that went off at Casey’s Store in Higbee shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday. Upon arriving at the scene, they found the front door of the store broken open and observed Sumpter damaging property with a large, iron pipe. While arresting Sumpter, he told them he had also damaged the Higbee Post Office.

After securing Sumpter, deputies went to the Higbee Post Office where they found the front door broken open and a large amount of damage done to the lobby. The damage appeared to have been done with the same large, iron pipe Sumpter was observed with in Casey’s.

Sumpter was first taken to the hospital and treated for cuts on his feet where he had been walking barefoot on broken glass. He was then taken to the Randolph County Justice Center.
