High school Districts to heat up on February 19

Four of the five schools covered by The Fayette Advertiser have been seeded in the Class 2 District 7 brackets of the Missouri State High School Activities Association’s District Championship.

The girls will begin play on Saturday, February 19 at 4:30 p.m. with the No. 4 seed Glasgow Lady Jackets facing the No. 5 seeded Fayette Lady Falcons. At 6 p.m., No. 2 seed Salisbury, will take on Westran.

At 7:30 p.m. host team New Franklin, seeded third, will face the sixth-seeded Slater Lady Wildcats.

On Tuesday, February 22 the No. 1 seed, the Harrisburg Lady Bulldogs will face the winner of the Glasgow/Fayette game in the first game of the semifinal round at 6 p.m. Harrisburg received a first-round bye. 

In the second game that night at 7:30 p.m. the winners of the Salisbury/Westran and New Franklin/Slater games will face off.

The winners of the semifinal games will play for the championship on Friday, February 25 at 6 p.m.

On the boys’ side, play will begin on Monday, February 21, at 4:30 p.m. with a tilt between No. 4 New Franklin and No. 5 Slater.

At 6 p.m. No. 2 Harrisburg will go up against No. 7 Fayette.

In the nightcap at 7:30 p.m., third-seeded Westran will face off against the sixth-seeded Glasgow Yellow Jackets.

The semifinal round will find No. 1 seed, Salisbury taking on the winner of the New Franklin/Slater tilt at  6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23. Salisbury received a first-round bye. That game will be followed by the Harrisburg/Fayette winner taking on the winner of the Westran/Glasgow game at 7:30 p.m.

The championship game will be played on Saturday, February 26 at 1 p.m.

The other area bracket for  Class 1 District 10 will play out in Pilot Grove as the Higbee girls, seeded No. 1, will receive a bye awaiting the winner of the February 19 game between the No. 4 seed Wellsville-Middletown and No. 5 Bunceton/Prairie Home. Once that game is decided, the winner will advance to the semifinals to play the Higbee Lady Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22. 

The other semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. will pit the winners of the other two opening-round games between No. 2 Pilot Grove /No. 7 Columbia Independent and the winner of No. 3 Jamestown/No. 6 Madison.

The championship game will be played out at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 24.

On the boys’ side, action will start on Monday, February 21 in Pilot Grove with No. 4  Jamestown facing No. 5 Prairie Home/Bunceton at 5 p.m. 

No. 2 Higbee will tangle with Columbia Independent at 6:30 p.m. Followed by the last game of the evening at 8 p.m. between No. 3 Pilot Grove and No. 6 Madison.

The semifinal round will start at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23 with the No. 1 seed, Wellsville-Middleton, facing the winner of the Jamestown/Prairie Home game. 

The second semifinal game will show the winner of Higbee/Columbia Independent facing off against the Pilot Grove/Madison winner at 7:30 p.m. 

The championship game will be contested at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 25.
