Hoover honored as Fayette girls Most Valuable Player

On March 21, the Fayette girls  basketball team honored 12 student athletes for their achievements during the 2020-21 season.

For the varsity squad, senior Kylea Hoover was voted Most Valuable Player. The Hustle Award went to sophomore Preslee Sunderland. The Best Teammate award was given to junior Laci Fuhlage, and the Most Improved Player Award went to senior Breanna Estes.

On the junior varsity team. the MVP went to freshman Kaylea Felten. Freshman Addison Powell won the Hustle Award while sophomore Bailee Butler was awarded the Best Teammate Award. Freshman McKenna Botts won the Most Improved Player award.

Also recognized were the four seniors on the team, Estes, Hoover, Shay McQuitty, and Abby Nation.

“It was a  year like no other, but our girls did a good job of fighting through that,” said head coach Brian Spielbauer. “We had two new coaches, a new system and a lot of stops and starts. I am proud of the work we put in and the advances that were made. I wish the seniors well as they move forward and look forward to the kids we have returning next year. We need a great summer of improvement, but I know our girls are up for the challenge.”

The varsity girls finished at 8-16 overall and 2-6 in Lewis & Clark Conference play and averaged 35.7 points per game.

Hoover led the Lady Falcons with 7.6 points per game while Breanna Estes averaged 6.9 rebounds per contest. Senior Abby Nation led the team with 1.1 assists per game.
