Fayette resident Janet Garms, age 75, passed away on November 1, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.

Janet Maurine Garms was born September 8, 1949, in Atlanta, Ga., to the late Maurice Foster and Helen Bernice (Potter) Righter. Being in a Military family, Janet moved often and was fortunate to see many parts of the world. She graduated from Kennett High School with the class of 1967. Janet primarily worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for the majority of her career. For 25 years, Janet was the office manager for PSL Fabrication, a business specializing in prosthetic and orthotic care. On October 23, 1999, she married Raymond Garms in St. Louis, Mo. The two settled in Fayette, and for the last 14 years, they have owned and operated their bail bonds business, Ray and Janet Garms Bail Bonds. Janet had a deep appreciation and love for her family. Her number one love was her grandchildren. In her spare time, Janet enjoyed fishing and crocheting

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Garms of Fayette, Mo.; two children, Melissa Furlow and John (Cheri) Huster, both of Fayette, Mo.; two step-children, Michelle (Irene Werdehausen) Huster of Linn, Mo., and Don (Joanna) Garms of Steelville, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Ethan, Tyler, Tanner, Blake, Chloe, Sage, Addie, and Cora; and three siblings, Richard Righter and Susan Anderson, both of Wisconsin, and Dora Carry of Florida. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Righter. She was also preceded in death by her beloved stepmother, who helped raise Janet, Hazel Righter.

A memorial service honoring the life of Mrs. Garms will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, with Pastor Jamie Page officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the funeral home starting at 1 p.m. Inurnment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
