Janice Lee Korte, age 84, formerly of Glasgow, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2022.

Janice Lee Pettigrew was born April 6, 1938, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Ward and Grace (Saunders) Pettigrew. She grew up in Watsonville, California, where she had wonderful memories of playing on the sand dunes and working at her mom’s restaurant. She later moved to southwest Missouri, where she graduated from Shell City High School in 1956. On December 16, 1966, Jan married Kenneth Korte in Fayette, Missouri. Kenny and Jan enjoyed 33 years of marriage until his passing in 2000.

She is survived by her five children, Paul (Carolyn) Brooks of St. Joseph, Missouri; Tim (Melinda) Brooks of Louisiana, Missouri; Jim Doty of St. Charles, Missouri; Sean Korte of Glasgow, Missouri; and Lisa (Doug) Korte-Wilson of Liberty, Missouri; her niece Susan Davis Proctor of Fayette, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, her brother, two sisters, a niece, and a nephew, with whom she is now joyfully reunited.

Jan enjoyed her time working at the Flower Bungalow in Glasgow. She was proud of the years she spent as the Secretary to the President of Central Methodist College and loved interacting with the students. Later, she worked for the Department of Health and Senior Services in Columbia until her retirement in May 2010. Over her 24 years there, she made many great memories with wonderful friends from the office. Jan enjoyed socializing with her Glasgow friends as a member of the Town and Country Club. She loved to travel, especially back to northern California and throughout Europe with her friends.

A funeral service honoring Jan’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2022, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Glasgow, with Rev. Karen Alden officiating. Visitation will be held an hour before the service at the funeral home starting at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow.

In appreciation for the extraordinary care always shown, Jan’s family suggests memorial contributions be given in her honor to The Lodge, 542 Route DD, Fayette, MO 65248.
