Julia Mary (Judy) Weiker, 88, a longtime Fayette resident, passed Wednesday, December 15, suddenly at Boone Hospital Center. 

She was born December 14, 1933, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Boonville, Missouri. She was the daughter of Charles William Lay and Ophelia Frances (Tatum) Lay. Julia graduated from Fayette High School in 1951 and graduated from the Chillicothe (Missouri) School of Business. She married James Earl Weiker on August 16, 1959 in Fayette. Julia enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and Mother, especially attending and participating in her children’s activities. She enjoyed her association with many Angus breeders over the years.

She was employed by General Motors in Detroit, Michigan, and later by John Kemp Motors in Fayette. Julia worked as an office manager for the Town & Country Insurance Agency (Bud Schmacher) and the Howard County Home Health and Hospice (Hometown Homecare) in Fayette. She was a volunteer for Amy Busker’s Kindergarten class for eight years. Julia served on the Howard County Extension Council and the Endless Options Executive Board.

Julia was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (joined on May 3, 1956) serving in many offices including Worthy Matron and as a Grand Chapter officer, Grand Martha, in 1989; a member of the Howard County Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (joined in June 1974); a member of the New Franklin Chapter GG, P.E.O (joined in August 1992); and a charter member of Fayette Chapter NN, P.E.O. in November 2015. She enjoyed being one of the Fayette Red Hats and a member of the Oakland Special Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, and her husband Earl. Julia is survived by her children Mary (Dan) Pearce of Boonville, Margaret of Plano, Texas, Fred of Fayette, and Earlene (Harold) Fox of Ellington; her sister, Charlotte (Carl) Acton of Fayette; her grandson, James (Michele) Fox and great-grandchildren, Lyla and Colson, of Festus; and her niece, Heather Henderson, and her four children, Seth, Parker, Carly and Cooper. She also is survived by several step-grandchildren and their children – Beth Jordan and children Ashleigh, Madeline, Isaac; Rebekah (Jimmy) Lefler and children Maggie and Molly; and Sarah Ferguson, all from Missouri; and Amy (Rob) Roberge and children Evan and Ella; and Bethany (Jeff) Lebida, both from Maine.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette and the funeral service on Thursday, December 30 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fayette. Burial will be in the Fayette City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Earl and Julia Weiker Memorial Scholarship Fund to aid students furthering their education in agriculture, and mailed to Carr-Yager Funeral Home, P.O. box 210, Fayette, Missouri 65248.
